Our engineers now use the new ‘light pen’ technology meaning that we can provide you with information from our engineers service visits and turn around reports and recommendations more quickly and efficiently.
All contrast customers benefit from our 24 hours a day, 365 days a year emergency callout facility, with a maximum 4 hour response time. Should additional peace of mind be required, we can also install monitoring systems such as BT RedCare, which will provide your site with a secure monitored link for your fire and security to our alarm receiving centre.
BS5829 - 1:2002 All end users, building and facilities managers need to be aware of how BS5839 - 1:2002 impacts on them and the maintenance of the fire alarm system on their sites so that they can ensure that they are fully compliant. Some of the key points are highlighted below:
Competent Company Competence of a fire alarm servicing organisation can be assure by the use of organisations that are third party certificated by a UKAS-certified body to carry out inspection and servicing of the fire alarm systems’.
I.C. Service and Maintenance are LPS1014 and BAFE SP203 Certificated
Annual Service Visits BS5839 - 1:2002 recommends that system inspections take place at a maximum of 6 monthly intervals (unless otherwise specified by a risk assessment or other agreement), with 100% of the system being tested over the course of one year.
Cause and Effect Testing Annual Cause and Effect testing is required. This test relates to how the sounders operate, plant shutdowns and time delays etc.
Special Inspection On the commencement of a new maintenance contractor taking on a new contract a special inspection needs to be carried out. Part of this inspection is to highlight any areas of non-compliance with the standards, such as inadequate detection etc.
False Alarm Rates If the average false alarm rate exceeds 1 false alarm per 20 detectors per annum to there are more than 2 false alarms from 1 device or location in a year than a full investigation is needed. If sufficient steps are not taken to limit false alarm rates or the site has an unacceptable level of false alarms, the system will be classed as non-compliant with the standards.
